Larry Hudson Smith
I am as excited about photography today as I was in 1968 when I got my first camera. At fourteen I knew my calling. I photographed everything in sight. Through the lens I could witness a moment in time and record a visual memory to be enjoyed again and again.
I majored in fine art and photography and through the years I’ve had many teachers and mentors willing to take me under their wing and help hone my skills. I have been privileged to pass some of that creativity on to my three kids.
A ten year tour as a Navy Public Affairs Photographer allowed me the opportunity to cover a wide range of exciting subjects and national events. I have personally photographed two U.S. Presidents, three governors, 65 admirals and hundreds of officers and enlisted personnel. This may age me; I photographed the Top Gun actors in San Diego when they were filming. From Crime Scene Investigation to Surface & Air Operations to retirements I’ve shot the good, the bad and the ugly.
One thing has remained constant is that I love to photograph people. Since we are all unique I believe that your special portrait should be…well…unique and special. I have owned studios in Bakersfield, San Diego, New Orleans and Denver. However, I shoot 99% on location because it’s much more relaxing and we are able to be more creative.
I am looking forward to working with you.
